Welcome to Amateur Equestrian Antics

I set up this blog up back in 2014 to share stories of my equestrian trials and tribulations. I had just started to event for the first time ever after a 10 year break from horses and wanted to document my journey for friends and family.

In that time I have achieved so much but still have so much further to go.

I have been supported and sponsored by some fantastic friends, trainers and businesses in this time and I have a new dedicated section of the site to tell you more about them all.

Sunday saw Lucas and I back out competing for the first time in 3 weeks. With Corky, Bluebell (our lorry) and me all being injured in one way or another there has not been much jumping done at all so I was feeling a bit rusty.

There was a fun Christmas show on at Blueridge so it seemed like a good way to get back to jumping.

It was the first show I'd been at all year running table A7 - wow, does it slow things up! It was fun going in for a proper jump off but I think I prefer the more modern single or two phase classes in the essence of saving time.

We ended up having a great day, DC in both classes winning the 60cm and fourth in the 70cm. I know the heights are still very low but Lucas is going to take time to come back and I need to make sure I don't rush him. He is finally making a nicer shape over the jumps and the staging leaps seem to have gone. I've added a couple of videos below to show the improvement. This Sunday we will jump 2 more wee classes at Rockrose this time and then a lesson with David later in the week. Corky (and I) have physio this week so I'm hoping to get him back into work ASAP as I am missing the cheeky week chap.

Few quiet weeks (very unusual for us!)

Corky has been having a wee yee-haa in the field and has managed to injure his right shoulder. Our lovely physio Maeve has been out to treat him and has said it's nothing too serious. Hopefully after a wee holiday and another physio session he will be ready to get back to work. I think he took a look at the 10 day weather report and though - no thanks!

Lucas has also been having a quiet few weeks while my lorry has been having some work done. He should be back out in action this weekend at the unaffiliated fun Christmas show at BlueRidge. It's been 3 years since I have has Lucas at this venue and things did not go wonderfully last time. See photo evidence below!

Fingers crossed we have more luck this time! Kerry and I are even going to try a pairs class - throw back to our pony club days.
